I think, there are 4 categories of food that aid in gaining belly fat:
1) Sugary drinks:
Sweetened beverages and soft drinks available in supermarkets have high percentage of sugar which can increase belly fat. This is also backed by scientific evidence. Instead of consuming these junk drinks, try to make fresh juice out of fruit at your home, and drink lot of water.
2) Junk and processed food:
Junk foods such as chips, biscuits, candies, or processed food such as those available in cans have high sugar component as well, aiding in gaining abdominal fat.
3) Refined grains:
Refined grains lose valuable nutrients during processing and they increase belly fat; refined grain include white rice, white bread or noodles. Instead, you can use whole grain products such as brown bread, oatmeals, or brown flour.
4) Foods cooked in hydrogenated vegetable oil:
Fast foods such as burgers, pizza, or cakes have hydrogenated vegetable oil which is devastating for health overall.
Personal Experience:
I lost my belly fat by stopping taking only 2 things: (i) White rice, and (ii) Products having wheat, such as breads, pancakes and other. And I added to my diet salmon, boiled mutton, chicken, and also spices, and I could considerably lose abdominal fat in very short time. In drinks, I take green tea, ginger tea, and water.
