I always feel reluctant to throw away my empty deodorants away. It’s like throwing memories away. It’s like a memory box or a time capsule of events that has happened within the time they lasted.
I still remember the “peff, peff” sound it make anytime I’m applying it on my body and cloth like the icing to a cake.
I mean there was a time I use to smell like that. It was wonderful whenever I spray them.
Sometimes it may be with happiness mood of going to see that loved person or going to buy my favourite snacks at the supermarket. It could also be at time I sprayed it to church hoping that sister in the choir will beckon on me when the pastor is preaching about the perils of fornication. Now it’s gone.
When I also think of different compliments that has gone into the body spray, it makes me want to hold on to it a little longer.
That happy exercise of spraying a familiar but insatiable sweet cologne has turned to just an empty iron bottle or a vague glass with just the name of the supposed smell which you keep forgetting as days go by.
Is it time to move on?
This is what is in my mind anytime I look at the shelf to see my empty colognes. But I don’t have the courage to do so. I want to from time to time, open the empty bottle and try to perceive the scent through my nostrils while lots of memories come gushing back to my mind.
What I’ve learn from this is that moments aren’t permanent and changes is constant. Moving on from past memories can be seen as a sign of growth even though it can be painful and sad.
We also don’t have to long to past memories, we should move on and create new ones. Holding on to the past is bad for business no matter how sweet they may be, it’s gone and what we have left is the present moment.
