Welcome back for another garden update. Now that it is officially summer, it is finally starting to feel that way with warmer temperatures and increasing sunshine. The garden is starting to dry out some, and with continued good weather hopefully the results will be good.
About a month ago, I wrote a post about my greens bed which I initially planted towards the end of April. My previous posts have references as to the types of lettuce and kale I am growing.
At the end of May, the plants really hadn't grown much due to the wet and cold conditions.
As you can see, the plants are flourishing now and I am harvesting lettuce and kale. I am also replacing the harvested plants with new plants to keep the yield as continuous as possible. I continue to cover with netting to prevent critters from destroying the crop. As the summer moves forward, I will replace the regular netting with shade cloth to block part of the sun, which keeps the greens from bolting in the summer heat.
If you look closely, you can see the netting.
Stay tuned for further posts. Still to come, updates on pumpkins, tomatoes, onions, squash , peppers, sunflowers, beans, corn and much more.
