The Stunning Bariloche Lakes

After our time with the indigenous people of Argentina, and the incredible gaucho family experiencing a day in their life, I then travelled here to Bariloche.

Bariloche is set in the foothills of the Andes and is famous for its incredible lakes and mountains. If you are planning a trip to Argentina then this is a must see area.

On the bank of the lake we saw the stunningly luxurious Llao Llao hotel which overlooks the lake.

This 5 star hotel has over 200 rooms with lots of suites that look directly onto the lake. We didn't stay here (unfortunately) but then I've always felt the best way to dive into the local culture is to stay with the real families, and I've been lucky enough to do this.

The lake itself is called Nahuel Huapi Lake and is as deep as the entire height of the Empire State Building.

When the Puyehue-Cordón Caulle volcano erupted in 2011 the ash travelled all the way over the Andes and covered this lake.

The mountains here remain snowcapped all year round even in the summer. When winter comes it's a great place to go skiing.
