They say that a picture paints a thousand words. I don't know who 'they' are, but I am inclined to agree. Here are some images I took of a Grey Squirrel in my garden earlier this week...
We don't see squirrels here very often. I see them sometimes in the tall trees the other side of the village, but very rarely here in this suburban setting.
He looks very nosey and inquisitive though... what on earth is he looking for? We only put out seeds on the birdfeeder, there are no nuts here Mr Squirrel!
What a minute! Where are you going!
Well I never! I didn't think he would actually want seeds...
But I guess beggars can't be choosers! He's certainly an acrobatic little thief, I'll give him that!
And that is probably why the bird feeder's here are completely empty, this thievin' squirrel has taken the lot!
I guess I'd better go and fill them up again, the little birds will need feeding too!
Speaking of Birds, earlier today I looked out the window and saw this awesome Sparrowhawk pearched on the fence at the end of the garden. The blue/black markings on the head and wings signify that it is a Male (the females are larger and a mottled Brown kind of colour).
Just look at those eyes! He looks flipping furious!
I was so happy to get these 2 images. I have seen the female a couple of times, but she only perches there for a couple of minutes, and carries on with the hunt for food. Whenever I see one of these Sparrowhawks I never have a camera near me to react in time, that was until today.
My camera was in another room, but my partners was laying on the desk next to me, so I instantly picked it up and took 2 pictures, before he flew away.
I checked the images, and they looked ok. I checked the setting and realised that I was on 1/1000 shutter speed, which meant I was on 6400 ISO. For non-camera people, this basically means the final images are noisy and pixelated... but its still by far the best image I have managed of these awesome and slightly intimidating birds.
