DIY Flower Costume 🌼🌿🪡 [ENG-ESP]

The project closure of my daughter's school is going to be about the environment, the teacher told us how the kids should dress to attend, and the girls have to go dressed as flowers.

When I told my daughter she got really excited and asked me to make her a costume of her favorite flower: the daisy. So I went on to get everything I needed to make it on time and not rushing last minute. For this I used:
-Green felt.
-Embroidery thread in different shades of green.
-Thread and needle.
-Scissors.
-Zipper.
-White foami.
-Plastic Headband.
-Silicone based glue.
-Glue stick.
-Gel glitter.

El cierre de proyecto en la escuela de mi hija llevará como tema el medio ambiente, la maestra nos comunicó como debían ir vestidos los peques, y en el caso de las niñas debían ir vestidas de flor.

Al decirle a mi hija le hizo mucha ilusión y me pidió que le hiciera disfraz de su flor favorita: la margarita. Así que al igual que todos los años decidí hacerlo yo misma, por supuesto que lo cosería a mano. Así que me dirigí a comprar todo lo necesario para elaborarlo con tiempo y no estar corriendo como loca a última hora. Para ello utilicé:

-Fieltro verde.
-Hilo de bordado en diferentes tonos de verde.
-Hilo y aguja.
-Tijera.
-Un cierre.
-Foami Blanco
-Cintillo de plástico (diadema, vincha).
-Pegamento a base de silicón.
-Barra de silicón.
-Escarcha en gel.

For the dress I took one of my daughter's dresses and traced the shape of both front and back on the felt, mainly the upper part, then I took a ruler and retraced the sides to make a straigher line and decided the final length. That way I had an exact pattern of my daughter's correct size.

Para el vestido utilice un vestidito de mi hija y trace el contorno del frente y la espalda sobre el fieltro, principalmente la parte superior, luego con una regla trace los laterales para una línea más recta y decidí el largo. Ya con esto obtuve un patrón exacto de la talla de Luna.

After that I cutted with the scissors leaven a centimeter of seam allowance only on the parts I would be sewing together.

Luego de esto, corté con la tijera dejando un centímetro de excedente únicamente en las partes donde cosería el vestido.

At this point I realized that felt doesn't stretch and ot would be hard to put on. So I took a zipper and placed it on the back piece, traced and marked the length and the place I wanted it to be. With the scissors I cut the cut the length and sew the zipper in place.

En este momento fue cuando caí en cuenta de que el fieltro no cede y sería difícil a la hora de colocarlo. Entonces busque un cierre y lo coloque sobre la parte posterior, marcando la longitud y el lugar exacto donde lo colocaría. Entonces con la tijera corte a lo largo de ésta linea y me dedique a coser el cierre en su lugar.

After sewing thw zipper, it was time to sew the whole thing together. For this is very important to remember to put the pieces right sides together.

Después de coser el cierre, es momento de coser los laterales del vestido, así como la parte superior. Para esto es importante recordar colocar la prenda al revés.

Once the main structure was done, I grabbed a piece of paper and draw leaves in different sizes, cut it and that was the pattern to cut some felt keaves to decorate the dress.

Una vez lista la estructura básica, tome un trozo de cartulina y dibuje unas hojas en distinto tamaño, recorte y ya con esto tuve el patrón para recortar unas hojas de fieltro para decorar el vestido.

I embroidered the lines of each leaf and sew them along the hemline and the shoulders of the dress, then I gave them some shine by covering them with a layer of glitter geland let it dry.

Bordé las líneas en las hojas y las cosi en todo el borde inferior y en los hombros del vestido, para luego darle un poco de brillo utilizando escarcha en gel y dejando secar.

For the top part I took the headband and wrapped it with felt, for this I used silicone based glue.

Para la parte superior tomé el cintillo de plástico y lo forre con fieltro, usando para ello el pegamento a base de silicón.

I drew a petal on a piece of paper to get the pattern and traced it on the foami sheet. After cutting the petals I coated them with more glitter gel.

Dibuje un pétalo en cartulina para obtener patrón y lo trace sobre el foami. Recorté los pétalos y los cubrí con escarcha en gel.

I placed the petals where I wanted them and traced the curve of the headband to cut in shape and attached them with a glue gun so it would dry faster and prevent them from moving out of place. Then I noticed I needed more, and cut two smaller petals to glue on each side.

Coloque cada pétalo en el lugar donde lo pagaría y trace la curva del cintillo para luego recortar y pegar con silicón caliente de manera que el secado fuera rápido y prevenir que se movieran de lugar. Luego me di cuenta que faltaba algo más y recorté dos pétalos más pequeños y los pegué a los lados.

I remembered I had golden glitter gel and applied some on the lower part of the petals to mimick the pollen.

Recordé que tenía escarcha en gel de color dorado y aplique en la parte inferior de los pétalos para dar la ilusión de polen.

And it's done! I was truly happy with the whole process, I really enjoy to make myself every costume for my daughter, and the most important thing is that she loved it.

¡Y listo! La verdad me hizo mucha ilusión todo el proceso, disfruto mucho hacer yo misma los trajes de mi pequeña, y lo más importante que a ella le gustó muchísimo.
