If you look the word ' revolution' in your dictionary, you will see that it usually means a complete and rapid change . The change may be in the type of government in a country.
It may also refer to changes in men's way of life and of thinking. Again a revolution can take place in a ways of producing to satisfy man's needs.
A revolution may bring about a complete change in the manner in which a country is governed. For example, a country which has always been ruled by a King may depose the King and elect a ruler in his place.

Unlike the King, the new ruler does not inherit his position but has to be elected by the people or men that represent them.
Another kind of revolution took place in Ghana in 1957 and in other parts of Africa soon afterwards, when the colonies, which were ruled by European powers, became independent nations and elected their own rulers.

A revolution may also occur when some group of people Change their ways of life, or their method of producing. people in Europe and , indeed, in all other parts of the world, made little or no use of machines to produce for their needs; they used their hands and their own strength to make nearly all that they needed.
In general , they made just enough for their own needs. but from the eighteenth century onwards, the position changed.
Men began to produce goods by machines in greater quantities of a wider market. This change, again, was another kind of revolution.
We are going to read about four important revolutions which have greatly influenced the history of the world .
These are :
The American Revolution,
The French Revolution
The Industrial Revolution
The Russian Revolution.
All these revolutions brought about very radical change from society.
