Yes, I’m still here!
I’ve been a lot less active for several reasons. The main reason? Walky.
Some of you might remember I’ve been working on a business idea.
For those of you who have no clue what I’m talking about, here’s a summary:
Did you know that 1 out of 4 is not physically active enough?
That in 2025 half of the population will be millennials?
That 93% of millennials want to buy from companies that stand out through their sustainability?
Well, I do. That’s why I want to help the millennials, which I’m a part of, to be more active and at the same time introduce them to a more responsible sustainable way of thinking.
The goal is to make a connection between this group of people and sustainable companies through a mobile app called “Walky”.
Walky is a step-counter app that rewards users through goodies, activities, you name it…all from sustainable brands.
An example? Let’s say from the list of possible rewards you see a coupon for a pair of shoes. You want it! The price? 200 000 steps. First we need proof of your active behavior. So get out there and walk 200 000 steps. Then you will be able to claim your reward.
This is a bit similar to Sweatcoin. But with Walky we want to introduce something new. Something that we will be known for:
The ability to create and join groups to walk together with its own unique rewards. Combine all your steps and claim a reward!
Walk for fun group activities, charity, family board games,… .
For the last few months I have been following workshops to gain as much knowledge about starting a business as possible:
-Create a marketing plan
-Create a financial plan
-Digital marketing
-Funding
-Pitching
The most important thing about these workshops was getting feedback from all types of people. This really makes a difference for anyone wanting to start their own business. Recently I made a pitch deck which is a fancy word for a short but inspiring presentation of your idea. I’ve sent it to several developers and 3 of them responded back and were interested in setting up a meeting.
My first meeting is July 3 with an app developer company based in Ghent. I’m very excited but also nervous.
All of this could fail but I learned so much that it will always feel like an accomplishment no matter what. I’m curious how far I can get with this.
