Hello everyone

A few days ago I bought myself a new laptop. I've been thinking about buying one for a very long time. My old one does not work that good anymore. The sound is broken too. Thursday was the big day. I ordered one through Coolblue. It's a very known online platform where you can buy loads of things like laptops, televisions, kitchen material, watches, suitcases, ... everything you can think of.

Now I did had some requirements.
In short It needs to be a gaming laptop. Not the very best one because I'm only interested into older games like Mafia 2, The Total War series, GTA 5, Arma 2 and 3, ... stuff like that. I do not want to play games like Fortnite or Apex Legends. I care less about games like that.
Singleplayer and good gameplay is the most important for me. Nowadays games just don't have that anymore.

So I decided to buy this one:

Asus ROG Strix GL502VM

Here are the most important specs:

  • Intel Core i7 2,8 Ghz
  • 16GB RAM
  • NVidia Geforce GTX 1060 3GB

Looks:
I made my choice between this laptop and one from Lenovo. I have to say, I love the design. It does not have fancy lights like most gaming laptops but that's something I don't mind. This way I keep my focus on the game and not the lightshow that's going on. ;)
One design element I really like are the letters ZQSD (a true gamer uses these keys all the time). They are in red.

Performance:
The hardware is good enough to play every recent game you want. There are some games like Apex Legends that will require better hardware to play at high settings. But for me, it's perfect. I can run every game I want at the best quality.

But.. there is one thing I'm dissapointed at. The noise.
I know a gaming laptop is known to make noise. It's pure logic. You have all that powerfull hardware packed into a thin laptop. So it's bound to make noise due to the cooling. But not like this.
When I'm not playing a game it's normal. I don't hear anything.
But the problem starts when I startup a game. It sounds like an airplane ready to take off. For me it's impossible to enjoy a game when the noise is so loud you need to put the sound at almost maximum level. I also don't like gaming with headphones on.

Luckily, I found a solution. I updated my drivers for the graphic card and installed Nvidia Experience.
Here you can activate the "whisper mode". I heard this will lower the fans noise by 50%. Fortunately, It did. Now I'm able to enjoy playing games.

Price:
I paid 1299 EURO which is a fair deal. You don't get top quality for that price but you won't get junk either.

Thank you for reading!
