original writing of some sort

Reckoning

There comes a time when everyone must answer

to the sinking feeling of self-recrimination,
(jury, judge, and judged in one)
which dissects the persona and redresses the ego
with more "suitable garments and paraphanalia"
in order to satisfy the insatiable,
please the implausible.
.
Please, only do gaze into the mirror(s) provided,
My dear madam or sir, if you'd be so obligèd,
Uncover the vast contradiction of concept
Which lurks like a sheen
'Neath the feathers ye preen.

Flattery

"A most glorious display, surely,
Which puts to shame the
Pastel of the peafowl,
The chameleon, the snake:
.
A deep-sea anchorfish
Spitting wretched 'lumination
O'er a dim plateau of graves.
.
But here
Must we stop, lest I
Damn ye with faint praise."

Condemnation

Creatures with their ends off
Many times over, extremities heat-crisped
On life's coal, grilled to the fatal delectability
Of junk food, much loved, manufactured dependability
Manage still to take offense to the
Subtlest culinary slight:
Declare themselves delicious
(whirling salesters)
Clearance! Bargain!
After the shelf life is expired
Still must needs the biggest margin.
