Today I was feeling good about Hive in general. Actually, I’ve always been quite optimistic about this platform, and I don’t really hold back when sharing those thoughts on Snaps, Waves, or even in my long-form posts.
If you’ve been following my content for some time, you probably already know that I strongly believe in Hive’s potential as both a blockchain and a social media platform.
And why wouldn’t I?
I’ve been here for many years. I’ve invested time, money, and effort into building my account, creating content, engaging with people, and learning more about the ecosystem. If we don’t believe that Hive has a future, then why are we still here creating content, engaging with other Hive users, powering up, and participating in the community?
That’s basically where my mindset was when I posted this simple thought on Snaps earlier:
“There’s so much potential for Hive... and I can see great things ahead for this blockchain and community. 😁 I’m excited to see how everything continues to develop!”
It was simply my personal opinion.
However, I received a response that honestly caught me by surprise:
“Give us the list of great things you can see, please. If you cannot, this is just a attempt at hype and maybe a few rah rah votes, because #brownnosing will get you everywhere on Hive...”
At first, I felt annoyed.
The first sentence sounded like a reasonable challenge. Asking me to explain what exactly makes me optimistic about Hive is completely fair. But the second part felt different because it seemed to suggest that my optimism wasn’t genuine and that I was simply trying to collect votes.
Naturally, my first reaction was emotional.
I became curious about the person behind the account and wondered why someone would immediately assume bad intentions from such a simple post. But before allowing myself to form conclusions about that person, I decided to stop for a moment.
I didn’t want my emotions to write the reply for me.
After cooling down, I responded:
“Fair question. I’m referring to the developers still building, new apps and games being created, and communities continuing to stay active. You may see it differently, but my optimism about Hive is genuine... not an attempt to collect votes. 🐝”
Looking back, I’m actually happy with how I handled it.
I could have replied aggressively. I could have thrown another accusation back at them. I could also have simply ignored the comment altogether.
Instead, I chose to answer the reasonable part of the question while calmly correcting the assumption about my intentions.
And I think there’s a useful lesson here that applies far beyond Hive.
We Can’t Control Other People, But We Can Control Our Response
The internet will always have people who disagree with us. Some will communicate their disagreement respectfully, while others may come across as hostile, sarcastic, or unnecessarily personal.
That’s simply part of being active online.
Hive is no exception.
In fact, disagreement itself isn’t necessarily bad. Sometimes criticism forces us to explain our thoughts better. Maybe someone has experienced Hive very differently from me. Maybe they’re frustrated about the price, governance, rewards, development, or something else entirely.
I don’t know their story.
And that’s exactly why I think immediately judging them would have been a mistake as well.
Of course, ignoring hostile comments is always an option. But personally, I think having a direct and calm dialogue can sometimes be more productive. You might discover where the frustration is coming from, and perhaps both sides can understand each other a little better.
What matters is not allowing someone else’s tone to control yours.
This small interaction reminded me that maintaining composure is something we practice, not something that happens automatically.
We cannot control what other people post.
We cannot control what they think about us.
We cannot control how they interpret our opinions.
But we absolutely have control over how we respond.
And sometimes, the best response isn’t the cleverest comeback or the harshest reply.
Sometimes it’s simply staying calm, explaining yourself clearly, and moving forward.
That’s what I chose to do today.
Hive on! 🐝
