Two days ago, Hive Town Mayor rozioo@rozioo called for help! Apparently, the Queen Hornet was preparing to launch an attack against Hive Town's Apiary, which is currently undergoing construction. If the attack succeeded, it could lead to the devastation of the Apiary, and we certainly couldn't allow that to happen!

Being the Silver Leaderboard Hero of Hive Town, I felt compelled to take action and defend our beloved town!

I was actually quite confident because I had successfully defended The Haunted Town, the first map of Halloween Defense, against the Honey Devourer, a giant bear. So I figured defending the Apiary against the Queen Hornet shouldn't be too difficult, right?

Well... I was completely wrong! LOL!

During my first attempt, the Queen Hornet's minions completely overwhelmed my defenses. I couldn't even survive the early waves, let alone meet the Queen Hornet herself!

My confidence dropped significantly. However, as a Silver Hero, giving up wasn't an option. So I continued experimenting with different defensive strategies over the next two days.

And after countless attempts, I finally figured out what worked!

Why I Kept Losing

Before sharing my successful strategy, let me explain the three major challenges I encountered.

1. Double Entry Points

001.png

Unlike The Haunted Town, where enemies enter through a single pathway, The Cursed Apiary has two entry points.

This completely changed my approach because I couldn't simply concentrate my towers along one route. I needed to distribute my defenses between two lanes, and initially, I couldn't figure out the right balance.

2. Limited Resources

I started with only 260 Honey, which seemed insufficient considering the size of the map.

My biggest mistake was trying to defend both entry points immediately. I ended up spreading my resources too thinly, leaving both sides vulnerable.

3. Unfamiliar Enemies

The new map also introduced enemies whose strengths and weaknesses I wasn't familiar with.

I had to observe their movements and experiment with different towers before understanding how to counter them effectively.

It was frustrating, but every defeat taught me something useful!

The Strategy That Finally Worked!

016.png

After numerous attempts, I realized that the key wasn't necessarily building more towers. It was about positioning them strategically and managing my Honey efficiently.

Here's how I successfully defended the Apiary!

Wave 1: The Bottleneck Defense

002.png

My first move was probably the riskiest decision I made.

Instead of defending the two entry points, I concentrated my defenses near the bottom of the map, where both enemy pathways converge.

With my initial 260 Honey, I purchased two Spirit Crystal towers costing 130 Honey each.

These towers became my final defensive line against enemies coming from either direction.

Fortunately, the strategy worked! I survived the first wave without losing any hearts.

Wave 2: Strengthening the Right Lane

003.png

After completing Wave 1, I realized that my earnings were quite limited.

I could only afford one Pumpkin Cannon, so I positioned it on the right side where I knew the next attack would arrive.

How did I know?

Well, that's one benefit of losing so many times during my earlier attempts! LOL!

Waves 3โ€“5: Expanding My Defenses

006.png

As more Honey became available, I started building additional Pumpkin Cannons and Honey Traps.

The Pumpkin Cannons provided area damage, while the Honey Traps helped control enemy movements.

I also started placing Bee Watchtowers near the entry points to improve my defenses against approaching enemies.

At this stage, my strategy was finally gaining momentum!

Waves 6โ€“10: Completing the Defense

008.png

By the time I completed Wave 6, I had enough resources to build towers across all available locations.

That was a huge relief!

However, I knew the enemies would become increasingly difficult to defeat, so my next priority was upgrading the towers.

By the end of Wave 10, I had upgraded my attacking towers to Level 2, while keeping the Honey Traps at Level 1 temporarily.

My priority was maximizing damage before improving crowd control.

Waves 11โ€“14: Preparing for the Queen

012.png

At this point, my defenses were already performing remarkably well.

I focused on upgrading as many towers as possible, including the Honey Traps, which finally reached Level 2.

I wanted every tower prepared for the final encounter because I wasn't taking any chances against the Queen Hornet!

Wave 15: The Final Battle!

013.png

This was it!

I dedicated my remaining resources to strengthening my defenses before the Queen Hornet arrived.

014.png

Fortunately, the combination of Spirit Crystals, Pumpkin Cannons, Honey Traps, and Bee Watchtowers worked perfectly!

015.png

The Queen Hornet and her minions were defeated before they could reach the Apiary!

Final result: 15/15 waves completed, 20 hearts remaining, and a score of 80,672!

016.png

Woohoo! Hive Town is safe once again!

My Final Thoughts

Looking back, I realized that The Cursed Apiary is much more challenging than The Haunted Town because it requires better resource management and defensive positioning.

The most important lesson I learned was that concentrating my strongest defenses at the bottleneck allowed me to survive the early waves while gradually expanding my coverage.

It took me two days of experimentation, numerous defeats, and plenty of frustration, but the victory was absolutely worth it!

And of course, I had a lot of fun along the way.

If you're also struggling with The Cursed Apiary, I hope my strategy gives you some ideas for your next attempt.
