Durian season is coming again! The host, Andrew will be really mad to click into this post, he hates durian!
It’s has been 1 year, I don’t have any chances to have some durians. Huhu, that’s sad. This photo is sent from my brother, he is having a great time at his girlfriend’s hometown, she has durian farm in her hometown.
SO he got durian for today, this durian is called Oh Chi (in hokkien), or 黑刺 (in Chinese) or black thorn (in English). Usually we just called it as Oh Chi, this is one of the famous breeds we have in Malaysia.
I think it might need at least RM 60 (15 usd) to have 1 kg of Oh Chi with husk. What’s the difference between Oh Chi with other breeds? Well, Oh Chi tastes bitter and creamy, also sweet at first. I love both sweet and bitter taste, especially when both are mixed. That’s perfect ^^
I still remember 10 years ago, there were durian buffet at Penang or Kuala Lumpur. Only RM 8 (2usd) or RM 25 (6usd) you can eat as many durians as you wish! What was more thrilling, they served good breed of durian for the customer, I don’t know how they could earn but they were doing charity man! I think it was due to at those time, durian in Malaysia had not been sent to other countries especially China. When there were no demand, there will be no exportation. Hence, output was more than demand, the price was low.
But now, just dream, you cant find cheap durian because most of the output are sent to oversea. Local demand is increasing, price too.
