Most stories start at the beginning. Most, but not all. And definitely not this one. I fumble with my thoughts, trying to figure out exactly what that means. When is the beginning? There are so many to choose from. I don't think I could ever fully describe when it all started, for it would be like trying to describe when the stars began to burn. There are some things I will never know while in this form. There are not words enough in all the languages in the world, for me to eloquently communicate when it began. I can only say that it feels as though it is as old as time. Like it has always been there, and always will be there. As if it was truly beyond time and comprehension.

It is the Sun and the Earth. It is the Moon and the waters. The desert and the rain. It never began. It always was. Ever since the coin of the Universe was first pressed. In the beginning, at the Great Separation, it was there. When one became two became one, it was there. It has found its way into many forms, many realms, many times before, and will continue to do so forever, for it is the power that turns the wheels of fate. It is the reason. It is not love, nor is it hate, yet is both, and still neither. It is not evil, nor is it good, yet is both, and still neither. It is punishment, within reward, within punishment, within reward. It is ever changing, and yet constant, in that it is ever changing. Calculated chaos. It is obvious, yet indistinguishable. It is eternal.

Some years ago, there was an eccentric German immigrant that tried to teach the world that we are all interconnected with one another, and with the universe, and that all things happen for a reason. He always wore the same silly clothes, and he was the only man in his city with a red door on his house. This man was known to have said a lot of very strange and insightful things. One of my favorite being, "If you can't explain something simply, then you don't understand it well enough."

I think that applies with absolute truth. Especially right now, at the beginning. I cannot explain it simply, because I don't understand it, and that is the beauty of it all. I don't understand it, and yet I don't care.
