BitcoinCash Making Me Nervous

Now that BitcoinCash is a thing, I have been so nervous to make a transaction. The Ledger Nano S made it seem like if I were to make a BitcoinCash transaction, I would lose my BTC. I decided to see if making a BTC transaction would effect my BCH balance.
