Misery daily stares back at me
In its eyes I see laughter can no longer be
Cost of living keeps running high.

Day by day my people sigh
Making ends meet has been a while
No longer can they afford a smile
Basic necessities exist no more.

Poverty and hunger is at the door
On all lips God’s name is lisped
Abodes of worship all scout to glimpse
My people deprived grow old and worn.

Even the young now boast no brawn
Anger and violence we have held on leash
They heed us not, hear not our pleas
How long should we await the dawn
How long before our swords are drawn.

Thanks for reading.
