In my long walks in nature I often find myself just thinking about life as a miracle. To remain in the present moment and free the mind of strenuous overthinking is not an easy task. I constantly have to work to remain focused and quiet my brain. I learn how to enjoy silence and admire everything around me : a tree, a leaf, an insect, a drop of water cast on a rainy day. Nature is a great healer and a great teacher if you are ready.
I take a particular attention to smells. I love how it smells in the woods. I feel more alive, peaceful and calm when I breathe the clean air. Just the other day, as I walked and inhaled my foresty oxygen, I had a thought: how about all of the other smells that made me feel happy in my life? How about the smells that trigger emotional memories and love and smiles? I started to make a mental list and immediately felt a creative urge to write this. I know that all of you have such a list of smells and I would love to find out more about it. Here is mine❤️
the smell of burned wood
the smell of rain, the smell of wet dirt and everything touched by the rain
the smell of freshly cut grass
the smell of hay in a hot summer day
the smell of blossoming linden, lavander and acacia
the smell of pine sap
the smell of a baby's hair
the smell of your lover's skin when you cuddle them
the smell of your favorite perfume in the first spritz you get on your skin
the smell of freshly washed hair
the smell of freshly washed skin after the shower
the smell of crispy sparkly frozen clothes dried during the winter
the smell of freshly washed bedsheets
the smell of freesia
the smell of comfort food prepared by those who love you
the smell of hot wine prepared during the holidays
the smell of the countryside: a mix of hay smell, grass smell, manure and other greeneries intertwined to create what I call raw & rustic fragrance
the smell inside an old wooden house which makes you feel a kid again back to your grandparents' house
the smell of Turbo bubblegum when freshly taken from its package
the smell of a new book
the smell of freshly roasted coffee
the pungent smell of new leather
the smell of the Christmas tree
the smell of the woods. What I would call the green smell. You can't say from what it is made, but it smells so fresh and alive
All of the above and many more are what I see as the soothing smells of life. We are surrounded by life everywhere and it takes so much self awareness to realize that we have so much to be grateful for every single day.
Have a blessed day and toodle loo!
