I always loved the happy stories. Of people who did not have the good circumstances and yet did a great job at staying together and raising a kid alright. I would love to see many stories like this.
I believe that to some extent, despite great intentions, all parents cause some damage. Parenthood does not come with a manual.
if you're messed up enough to do something like have a child to fix something, I'm not sure you have the wherewithal to reflect on whether it's a good idea or not.
Very true! This is why becoming self aware is so important. I agree with you that this is a very delicate topic and few dare to raise it and speak their mind. There is trauma and as I said, bad parents are not bad people. Situations like war, holocaust, abuse etc happen. But in the same time to what extent are those events an excuse to perpetuate trauma? There have been adults trapped in dreadful circumstances who helped other people and others have turned into monsters. I believe that attitude is everything and to some extent, we can't put the blame on trauma 100%. One fine example is Viktor Frankl, who overcame tremendous trauma and yet came out as fine individual who helped others. Are we the trauma or are we what we consciously decide to be?
We can't tell people to not conceive, but in the same time leaving this act to just randomness... Raises questions. I believe in education a lot. We lack emotional education in schools. For example parents who treat badly their kids end up producing bullies and those kids will cause a lot of damage in society. The school can be a great way to help those kids to deal with stuff, to teach that what their parents are not capable of.
The future is in the kids. It has always been. And parents can't teach them more than they have learned themselves. This is why I would love to live long enough to see parenting classes or schools, where myths about parenthood could be demolished and adults would learn how to deal with their own trauma.
I believe that healing is possible at any age to the extent of the person's self awareness. In order to heal, you have to know that you've been hurt and have hurt others. In the end, the bigger goal of humans should be to leave a better Earth, a great place for future generations to be. And this can be done only through raising delicate topics and shedding some light.
I appreciate your very well thought reply and thanks for readingš¤
