The passing of time is always a surprise for us. Not while is happening, but after we realise we have changed. I had a thing for the old style leather albums of my grandmother, where I could see black and white photos of her early days. It was then when I fell in love with black and white photography and wondered about the process of change.
I think there is a kind of magic captured in photos. A moment of deep contemplation, of thinking. A mood. A feeling. The unsaid. The ways in which you look at a person and wonder about the way she was thinking then
This is an old photo of mine. A self portrait. I say old because it is from my University days. Back in 2009.To be more precise, it is from the times when I studied a couple of months in Norway. I have a Bachelor in Journalism, which I did not pursue, but I hold it proud. I did not embrace my curly hair back then and always tried to straighten it, but it rebelled anyway through some lost strands of curlyness.
I loved my time in Norway for the landscapes and dreamy atmosphere. I hated it because of the humidity and frequent colds I had. I loved it for how it looked in the winter. I can still remember how magic was my winter here. I felt like I was living in a fairy city just like you see in Christmas movies. It was so good that I've put my body on the ground and made snow angels with one of my friends I had here. I'll never forget it, I can feel the redness of my cheeks and the wet clothes on my body like it was yesterday. And the smell of fresh snow sticking to my clothes while I can't stop flapping my hands, making angel wings. I was a grown up, but the child in me was thriving back then. And still is now.
I value memories and old photos. I like vintage old style albums. I like the black and white. It simplifies things, gets rid of clutter and leads you straight to the soul. And now you might wonder..... What was she like.... back then....
