I had quite an agitated sleep last night and I woke up feeling more than ever inspired to write on my blog...
Making choices in life is difficult. I think that the art of choosing the right thing to do must be mastered constantly. I find it even more difficult to try to make choices under pressure. That pressure can be from parents, from a partner, from friends or just from this whole society.
We want the love, the job, the safety, the money, the success, the house, the kids, the everything. And somehow people found certain guidelines to make that stuff happen. Get married by 30,have babies while young, buy a house and save for retirement, get a good paying job and show your neighbours your vacation pictures. Because once a year you must show off, no matter how much your wallet will curl up afterwards.
In this abstract drawing I wanted to show just that. The dread of making choices. The pressure of leading a life only to make others happy can make people wear a blindfold and be oblivious to their own needs. I do not need to live my life for others to approve me. I need to live my life according to rules of decent morality and be happy with myself. Trying to please others is exhausting and it is not worth it.
Getting married when society thinks you should is wrong. I rather get married later and be happy than to get stuck in a wrong one only because we signed a piece of blank paper. Paper doesn't make marriages work, people do. And when I hear old people showing off their "30+" years of unfortunate marriage it makes me sad. I think we should value our life long enough to not spend 30 years with a wrong person just to follow norms.
I believe in making choices that bring us peace. I value my peace of mind and tranquility enormously. And I think that nobody can make you as happy as you can. And once your soul is full of love, you can see how important is to keep that peace oasis and to make choices that will make your heart jump of joy. And that will most likely always put you in front of defying standard norms. Follow YOUR norms, not others's!
