Hey everyone, the general rule of thumb with bee-keeping is remove supers from hives in the dearth season, we normally do but this time we're late and it paid off abundantly.
So why where we late in removing supers? We simply forgot about our one apiary and in doing so were rewarded with atleast another 8kgs of late season dark honey.
In the 4 years I have been bee-keeping I have only once got such dark honey, it is very viscous, dark and delicious I assume it is a mixture of Aloe and blue-gum as they are currently in flower.
I am continually amazed at their incredible architectural design prowess, just look at those glorious combs.
Below my two boxes next to the tennis court one which has bees recently moved in and the other hive without, we will leave the empty one here for the while in the hope we catch another swarm in Spring.
