So you may be wondering why I didn't do a post yesterday. Did I finally give up my one-post-per-day-all-year challenge? Did I die of some horrid, unexpected disease? Did I run out of things to write about? No. My computer decided it didn't want me to.
I'd started drawing a comic (which I'll post soon to make up for yesterday). I was just clicking to draw a line when a dialogue box appeared- and I'm not exaggerating when I say this- literally right under the cursor as I clicked, asking if I wanted to restart now or later, and of course, it clicked now.
I did cancel it before it started updating, but by this point my drawing was gone. That's not a big deal- it had only taken 15 minutes, tops. Conveniently, though, it also broke the driver for my tablet, which meant I couldn't simply redo the drawing.
I mentioned before how I honestly wonder if the computer conspires against me. Every time I tell it not to update, it breaks whatever I'm doing in such a way that I have to restart the laptop, which allows it to update anyways. I've yet to figure out if this is mere coincidence, or some plot for my computer to force me to allow updates.
So yeah, I clicked restart (not 'restart and update', which is a different button). It updated. I figured at this point, there's nothing I can do, so I launched Isaac. One full run later, plus a trip to the bathroom, plus a trip to the kitchen for a drink, the computer was... Not even 25% done. It was at this point I realised, I can't afford to stay up until 2am waiting for this, the blog will have to wait.
I've complained a lot about the UI changes in Windows 10 before. I realise it's all subjective, and there's an app to fix it anyways, so I don't make much of a fuss. But, and I don't say this lightly- any operating system that will, without warning, kick the user out for multiple hours, with no way to prevent it or properly cancel it, is a bad operating system.
For the record, I'm currently writing this on my phone, in bed, while the computer continues to update. It'll be posted in the morning, assuming the computer works, and I'll redo the comic and have it up by the usual time.
Hopefully you enjoyed this post!
