Today, I'm gonna be talking about walks. It is a little bit late as I'm writing this, so I'll keep it fairly short (hopefully). Walks have always been a big part of my life. I was raised in a very small town, so there are lots of areas nearby with no buildings or traffic that are great for walking in.
Now, the purpose of a walk can change the experience drastically. Walking from place to place can be a hassle- it takes time, and energy, and having to walk for more than a few kilometres when there are roads available feels like a waste of time. On the other hand, walking for the sake of walking can be very enjoyable, especially with company (though music can suffice for shorter walks too, in my experience).
Honestly, some of my best memories are of walks. My brother and I used to go for walks regularly, either just around the block, or down to the beach, sometimes even walking for hours and finding ourselves downtown. Before my friend moved, she would join us for these, and we'd always find stuff to do, or talk about. Lately, I've been going on walks with some of my brother's other friends too, which tend to have a very different mood, but are still quite enjoyable.
I think there are two main reasons walks are so enjoyable. Firstly, they're a great excuse to go outside, for exercise and fresh air (at least, in less urban areas). Secondly, they force you to talk to whomever you're walking with, having minimal distractions, but also having freedom to go almost anywhere and do whatever you want (eg. going to a park, or a forest, or a beach).
There's a famous saying, that's life isn't about the destination, but the journey, and I think walks really prove this point. Most of the time we went on walks to the beach, we wouldn't actually do anything once we got there. Sometimes we'd watch the ocean for a few minutes, or sit and talk, but most of the time we'd just turn around and walk back. It's not often I walk somewhere purely to go there- generally, I go for a walk for the sake of walking, and the destination is just an opportunity to do something along the way, or even just an excuse to go in the first place.
Anyways, that's gonna be it for today- hopefully you enjoyed this post!
