I got in a long argument discussion with my dad, so I'm writing this pretty late. I'll try to make a pretty quick post today, once again talking about the new character in The Binding of Isaac, and giving some more in-depth (and MUCH more spoiler-y) thoughts.
...
Okay that should be a sufficient warning.
Having spent a lot of time the past two days playing as The Forgotten, I've gotten more used to their play style, and can form more coherent thoughts about them. I feel The Forgotten is reminiscent of Azazel, in that they're very strong early game, but if you're not careful, or if you get bad luck with items, they can quickly become a hassle to play as, due to low health and limited range. I quite like some of the special abilities- for instance, grabbing objects from a distance, using the body as a shield against enemies, using the spirit to cross obstacles, or opening Mimics without taking damage. On top of that, I've honestly grown very used to the melee attacks, and sometimes I find it a little weird using normal tears again.
One of my favourite things is the item interaction. Technology gives laser rings around the player when swinging; Mom's Knife attaches to the end of the bone to make a sort of scythe, adding damage and range; Chocolate Milk and Cursed Eye (the latter of which I normally hate) replace the bone-throwing attack with a charged shot, doing either more damage or multiple swings, and both giving more range. There are some interactions that honestly aren't as fun (eg. Brimstone and Monstro's Lung, both of which only work with the bone-throwing attack), and a bunch I've yet to try out (like Tech X).
In comparison to other characters- The Forgotten feels weaker than Azazel, though arguably much more versatile. Compared to Isaac, I honestly think The Forgotten is better (minus the D6, of course)- you do more damage per second, with more ways to attack. There is one big downside though, similar to ??? (AKA the Blue Baby)- you're guaranteed devil/angel deals, but can only spend spirit hearts, making them considerably more expensive (especially compared to The Lost, who can get them for free).
Overall, The Forgotten is an extremely fun, versatile character, but not necessarily too strong. The ability to fly is really nice, but countered by the very limited range of movement. Melee attacks are quite fun, and something Isaac has needed for a while, in my opinion. Bone throwing isn't something I personally care for, though I can see it being useful in some situations. Unlocking this character is quite tedious, but I feel it's very much worthwhile for anyone experienced with the game who wants a new, unique play style.
Anyways, hopefully you enjoyed this post!
