One of the most unnoticed phenomenon about human character is their attitude towards last minute. Last minute comes with a sort of pressure that drives men to go extra mile to achieve their long postponed goal before times up.
Thinking of the critic class that held yesterday, about the video making group project we were given, I realized that we were given more than two months to finish up the project.
As at last two weeks, none of the group could confirm that they had finished up with the video shooting, not to talk of the editing. As at last week, few of the groups where almost done with the video making project.
Four days to the critic class, people started running helter-skelter, doing all their best to meet up with the final date and time.
Funny enough, the day came and every group were ready for the critic class. Then I started to think
If we could get this thing done in the rang of one week, why did we have to wait till the dine minute before making it done. We could have done it earlier with the last minute energy and still have more time for another video making project after the critic class and before exam time.
Talking of my group members and I, we started the project early enough, but with a low energy. When we started earlier this semester, while working on the pre-production, after a some period of time, we get fed up and stop , to be continued the next day.
Pre-production is the work done on a product, especially a film or broadcast program before full-scale production begins. Elements of video production such as the script, casting, location scouting, equipment and crew, and the shot list all happen during pre-production. Pre-pro is the planning stage.
We had other activities to do, school related and activities outside the school. Most times we stop the project work to attend to other things.
As time goes on, and as the critic day comes nearer and nearer, the need to finish up our project became more urgent.
NOTE: the project was always important due to the fact that the course is one of the two (3 unit) courses this semester, and the video making project carries about (50 marks), but at the beginning of the semester, the project wasn’t urgent.
As the deal day comes closer, we started leaving all other activities to make sure we are gathered and working, we stopped postponing group meetings, we even started to stay at the studio overnight. During the cause of rush preparation, a group member lost his phone while another had his phone broken.
If we had put the energy from the beginning of the semester, we would have finished earlier and taken note of some mistakes we made while editing the video. My group member probably wouldn’t have lost his phone.
Among the things I learnt during the project, I learnt that I should not wait for a situation to get urgent attending to it. We were lucky enough to meet up with the critic class, but luck might not work next time.
Thank you for your time.
