Do you ever wonder why we cats seem to hear things that you humans cannot? Well, we are sort of wired that way! Cats and humans have similar hearing on the low frequency end of things, but when it comes to the high end, we take the prize.
We have the ability to hear things up to 64kHz which tops out on the ultrasonic side of things. That's why we know just where those little mice hang out in walls and things.
When we listen, you will notice that our ears swivel sort of like miniature satellite dishes. Our ear flaps, also called pinnae, can point independently as well. This all aids in hearing sounds in multiple directions all at once!
I also would like to point out that I love music! Contrary to popular belief, we cats do like it. Now, if it's too loud, of course I will go find somewhere else to pass some time. However, my human sings lead vocal in her band and also plays the flute. I really like listening to her practice (singing.......the flute we will have to discuss on another post) as I can really get into the groove!
I hope you've enjoyed this little window into my hearing and your other furry feline friends! I hope that everybody has a simply purrrr-fect day! MEOW!
