"As long as there was coffee in the world,
how bad could things be?" - Cassandra Clare
This morning I woke up a bit down and very worried. Last night, I received a couple of pieces of news that left my spirits at rock bottom. Both are related to the health of loved ones.
My 80-year-old uncle fell and broke his hip. He needs surgery, which is being done at the moment. And of course, with all the worries that this entails during and after for a person of his age.
And the second is the health of a very dear friend of mine, who has a kidney transplant. She is one of the most resilient people I have ever met. She has helped me so much to see life with much more optimism. And to worry less about banal things and focus on what really matters. She is going through a bad time with her health. But it is her story, and she will tell it if she wants to. I just hope life will bring her many years of good health.
So this morning, I needed to lift my mood somehow. And as I had an early morning appointment at my son's school, after dropping him off, I still had an hour to wait. Instead of staying at school, I decided to go to a nearby bakery for a coffee.
I needed one of those moments with myself. To sit down for a coffee and watch life go by. And in doing so, I realized that it had been a long time since I had done that. And that I need to do it more often. Lately, I always have had company when having coffee out. And of course, I love to share a coffee with friends and chat. But I also love to look around and get lost in my thoughts while having a coffee.
So this morning was a reflection moment, just me, the latte, and my thoughts. To look at the worries with a better perspective. Filling me as much as possible with positive thoughts, so I could help those who I care for to cope with both situations.
But the evidence gave me away. I did have a sweet company. I couldn't help but indulge myself a little and fell into the temptation of having a Pastéis de Nata with my latte. And when I eat one of these lately, I can't help but remember my friend @beautifulwreck. And the coffee that we owe each other when we cross paths by chance or with intention. And that we will surely accompany with a couple of Pastéis de Nata.
So thanks to my coffee moment this morning. I feel a little better. I'm still worried but no longer down. And even while waiting for my appointment time, I've had time to write a draft for this post.
That's all for now if you've made it this far. Thank you for reading!
