The sound of the alarm clock was so loud that Chinyere groaned and stretched her hand to stop the alarm clock from ringing. She drags herself up from the bed and says her morning prayers. She looks at the time and hiss. Another day to struggle for survival, she muttered.
When she came out of her room, she was met with the smell of freshly baked bread coming from the kitchen. It was her mother preparing breakfast for the family.
"Good morning, Mom, chinyere said.
Good morning, my darling. How was your night? Hope you slept well. Mrs Amadi asked.
"Yes, Mom, I did; please, Mom, where is Dad. I need to speak to him about something, chinyere inquiry
"You are not looking bright, it's everything okay with you. Mrs Amadi asked.
"I am fine; just point me to where Dad is; I must talk to him. Chinyere asked.
"Your father is on the balcony reading his newspaper, take a cup of coffee to him if you are going to meet him, Mrs Amadi told her.

Chinyere carried the tray of coffee and the freshly baked bread to the balcony to meet her dad. Chinyere has been admitted into the high institution, but knowing the financial condition of her family, she was worried about what would become her fate.
"Good morning, Dad", chinyere said on reaching where her dad was seated.
Morning, my angel, how are you, her father, Mr Amadi, replied.
Very fine, thank you chinyere replied.
She sat down quietly beside her father while he sipped his coffee. She sat without saying a word until her father was done. And broke the silence himself.
"Ada m, (my first daughter), what seems to be the problem? You look worried". Mr Amadi inquired looking worried as well.
"Dad, I have been admitted to study pharmacy at the University of Nigeria Nsukka", chinyere replied.
Hmmm, Mr Amadi breathed out and couldn't say a word. He was supposed to be excited that at least one of his children is going to a high institution, but he doesn't have the money to foot the bills. He doesn't want to disappoint his child.
With a smile that wasn't coming from the heart. He congratulated her and called other family members to come and congratulate her, too. When everybody came out to congratulate her and wish her well. Both parents were worried but chose to hide it.
As everywhere was calm and collected again, everybody had gone back to their various chores. Mr Amadi dismissed Chinyere and told her that later, they would talk. Later that night, Mr Amadi woke his wife up and told her they needed to talk about Chinyere school.
"Honey, what do we do about chinyere admission considering our financial status, he asked
"My darling, I know that we don't have money, but we must do whatever it takes to see her through school. She has been a good child and has helped us to train her young ones out of secondary. We have to see that her dream comes through".Mrs. Amadi said firmly
"I know but where do we start from. I don't have a job anymore. The small thing am doing is not moving well, we can barely feed not to talk about sending her to a high institution" Mr Amadi said
I have told you to use this car and turn it to bolt, but you refused, how can a whole you. Let's use our pieces of land for poultry; you still refuse. I wonder what you are going to tell your daughter that her dream of becoming a pharmacist will not come to pass because of your pride. Mrs Amadi said very angry.

Unknown to them, chinyere was eavesdropping on their conversation as she wasn't sure if she would go to school. She stood there for a long time and finally decided to knock on her parent's door. She was let in, and she sat down and told the parents that she had a plan on how to go to school before applying for it. There was a surprise on their faces.
Mom and Dad, I already know what our situation concerning money. I just wanted to let you all know that I have decided to take up a weekend part-time job, and Dad, I need you to allow Mom to use that piece of land to start poultry. You can, please give your car out to someone to do returns for you, if you can't use it for a cab by yourself," Chinyere said calm but firm in her speech
An agreement was reached that night, and Chinyere started school,, she worked as a janitor in her school, a waitress in the evening, and a tutor on weekends with the help of her mother's poultry business, and their father started using his car for cab business too. She decided a long time ago that instead of sinking, she would swim to the end. Her resilience and determination made her become a pharmacist at last.
