On this fateful day, the Harmattan wind was really thick and strong. Everywhere was actually so dusty and thick. Jide was actually sitting on the bench that was placed in the corridor of his father's house. He was watching the sky as the sun was shining so bright. Of course, it has been close to decades since Jide has been to his father's house.
After His Father's burial and funeral ceremony, everything gets clearer for him as he now understands that time has actually passed. The reality is getting closer to him. Remembering the childhood days when he spent quality time with his father. Everything has become a past now.
"Jide, are you there?"
It was Jide's mother's voice from behind calling him for his dinner. Of course, Jide will not be eating dinner without his best friend, Ade. They have been together for several years.
As Jide heard the call behind from his mother, he was robbing his finger, trying to get up from the bench he had been sitting on for many years. Truly Nostalgia was a thief.
There was a knock on the gate that drew his attention. Standing up to find who is at the gate, it happens to be his best friend Ade.
"Jide, your face has not changed all this many years", Ade is trying to tease.
"You too, Ade, you haven't changed much after many years", Jide responded.
It has been many years. Both Jide and Ade have been separated due to academic reasons. Ade heard about the death of Jide's father and cancelled all his schedules to attend Jide's father's funeral.
Jide has been lonely since morning because it actually looks like he has been the only one around the house meditating on how life will be now that his father is gone.
Jide was super happy to see his friend Ade finally around him. At least, he will have someone to gist with and not be sober always like he has been since morning.
"Jide, I was told you are around so I need to cancel my schedule for this weekend to come"
"Wow, thank you so much,, my friend. I am really grateful" Jide responded.
Ade and Jide took a stroll outside the corridor along the streets.
"Jide, do you remember how we usually move here to pluck the mango tree?" Ade asked Jide trying to bring back their childhood memories.
"Ade, my friend, I remember how time flies. If I can still remember, That is now 10 years ago"
After many years, Jide let the nostalgia get over him without not fighting it back. He actually remembers how he usually spent his childhood afternoons eagerly waiting for the akara his mother was cooking.
But now, it has become in the past. As Ade was standing beside him. All the childhood memories still look recent but it can't be denied that it is exactly 10-15 years ago. Truly, sometimes we might not be able to value our childhood memories until they pass us. The passage of time is definitely real.
