My top 10 influential albums

A few days ago I came across a post with the same title by @steevc with some great albums, and thought I would share 10 albums that have influenced me over the years. I think I will take more of a chronological direction so you can see how my taste in music has evolved over the years. Its been a while since I have written and shared about music! I grew up with a taste for everything rock and metal, but this has changed ALOT over the years!

Ok here goes.

Metallica - Master of Puppets

This could easily have been Killemall, Ride the Lightening or And Justice for all... but gotta choose just one. As an aspiring young guitarist there was just something alluring about Metallica - riffs that go from fairly simple all the way to expert

Slayer - Seasons in The Abyss

What goes well with Metallica? Slayer of course! Slayer take more of an extreme thrash angle and again make for some awesome songs to try and learn!

Stone Temple Pilots - Core

My early musical influences werent all Metal! Stone Temple Pilots were another favorite of mine - awesome rock/grunge singalongs. RIP Scott Weiland! One of their slower songs from the album - Creep

Pendulum - Immersion

Now this is where things start to change for me! I can still remember going to a festival and seeing Pendulum for the first time and them playing a version of Master of Puppets. I was amazed, what was this sound! A merging of rock, metal, drum n bass and more gives a truly unique sound.

Big Bad Voodoo Daddy - Deluxe

There was a phase where I got right into swing and neo swing - not so much now, but it was still influential to me at the time! One great band is Big Bad Voodoo daddy - great feel good swing music from the 90s! The album I loved was called American Deluxe

Streetlight Manifesto - Somewhere in the between

Ahh Streetlight Manifesto! Still one of my favorite bands to this day! Their mix of rock, punk and ska provide some amazing tunes - their brass section is incredible!

Parov Stelar - The Demon Diaries

Parov Stelar bring swing back into the 21st century with a electronic re imagining of some classics, plus many originals . They also have some cool videos! I saw them live a couple of years back and it was quite an incredible show

Ed Sheeran - + (plus)

Ed Sheeran is quite an amazing musician - often just recording his songs with a guitar and loop pedal. Mixing pop and rap with ease.

Netsky - III

In the last couple of years I have gotten back into drum n bass - as earlier influenced by Pendulum. One album I have had on repeat for a long time now is Netsky - III. Some great toe tapping tunes and singalongs - it is often my go to for the gym

Alien Weaponary - Tu

Lastly, it would be rude to have a list without a kiwi band in! The debut from Alien Weaponary is nothing short of extraordinary. They were all in their mid teens when they wrote this album. Some of the songs are recorded in Te Reo Maori - the native language of New Zealand. If you like your metal heavy then check out these guys
