Dear Corporate Masters,

You need us more than we need you.

Ill wishes and disregards,

I'm calling in today 馃槑 The Kentucky State Fair just started today and it's just a mile up the road, business should be booming. My last shift we were 'just too busy' for me to be able to take a break (labor laws notwithstanding).

Cool.

Turnabout's fair play, no? Seems I'm just too busy to be able to make it in today. I'd feel bad about leaving my coworkers in the lurch (well, at least a few of them) but I've been trying to unionize those fuckers for the past nine months to no avail.

The 100th anniversary of the largest labor uprising in the United States (the Battle of Blair Mountain) is coming up later this month. Guess I'll just celebrate that a bit early with some time off.

It's kinda entertaining watching history repeat itself. When the pandemic hit I started reading up on earlier pandemics. One of the interesting things I discovered was that during and immediately after prior pandemics the labor market was disrupted, which resulted in the working class being able to demand and get improvements in wages and conditions.

Needless to say the powers at be during these times weren't a bit pleased about this and there was much wailing and gnashing of teeth. Seems the GOP is doing a fine job of upholding that tradition this time around....

Sadly, the monied classes were typically able to claw back much of the progress workers had made within a few decades. We're still just getting started with this pandemic and the changes it will bring, it'll be interesting to see if it follows the same playbook.

I'll end this rant with a reminder: If you have a boss you need a union!

So how has the pandemic affected the job market and labor dynamics in your area? Anybody noticed much in the way of changes in their line of work yet?

(Photos because even pollinators need to bee unionized!)
