By now we've all seen the terrible scenes coming out of Venezuela. Here in Louisville we have a sizable Venezuelan community, and this past Tuesday folks come out to the Americana World Community Center to help them to sort through, pack up, and prepare to ship out aid for folks in Venezuela.
There's been an excessive heat warning in effect all week, but even with the heat wave the Americana was a hive of activity.
One truckload got sent on its way, with another ready on plastic wrapped pallets awaiting an empty truck.
While this shipment was oriented towards immediate survival needs, organizers said that there would be another in the very near future in focused on aiding the rescue teams.
The organizers also said that they were coordinating with people in Venezuela to make sure the aid gets to where it is needed, with the shipments being sent by sea and air.
Don't know exactly how many people turned out to help but it had to be more than fifty, the place was hopping.
Can't do that much work in the heat and not eat.
Teamwork makes the dream work. . .
Amidst cheers and with horn blaring, the first batch got sent on its way.
With even more waiting to follow it.
Had reached out to the Americana to get permission to document the occasion, was glad I did. Was something special to get to witness the community coming together like that, hope it helps to ease the suffering in Venezuela.
