FA-18s s.jpg

When I was a kid I wanted to be a fighter pilot when I grew up. When I got older I learned you needed great vision to be a pilot so that got shot down, but my fondness for military aircraft and particularly fighters lived on. Every year that there's not a pandemic on they have an nice air show here as part of the run up to the Kentucky Derby. Most people around here are more interested in the fireworks that come after but it's the air show that I always try to catch, there's always plenty of military aircraft and a nice array of old and modern fighters.

The F/A stands fighter/attack, meaning they're intended for both air combat and ground attack. The US Navy flies these off the aircraft carriers, and since the retirement of the F-14s these have been the primary combat aircraft on the carriers and will continue to be until the F-35s get their shit together. These particular aircraft are Canadian but in years past the Blue Angels have put in appearances at the air show.
