I cannot say it often enough, watching mammels is one of the best pastimes. The interaction, the love, the incredible bond you can see and feel within a group of animals. Southern Africa has offered incredible moments of close encounters with some of the big five. Animals seem to have their own character. Some more curious then others, some a bit more freigtened. Some seem to be the playful one´s... maye it´s some sort of projection, but I certainly have come across some special animals.

This giant elephant just walked towards me for about 400m. I was sitting by a waterhole and nothing had happened for a couple of hours. And I saw this giant solo elephant heading towards the well deserved evening bath. The joy of the cold water was obvious. I always have the impression that elephants don´t only go into water because they have to. But because it´s fun.

On that same day I was heading back to camp when I saw some shadow moving in the bushes. I drove back and forwards and would have left not seeing and finding anything, until her head popped up from the gras. This beautiful lioness was so attentive. I didn´t know if she was on the hunt or just resting. She certainly gazed at the grazing zebras with watchful eyes. Quite mesmerizing site. So powerful. Without weapons or machines, we are pretty small in the wild.

Sunsets never get boring out here and this one didn´t disappoint either. I don´t know if it´s the colour, the intensity of the sun or just the great distances you can just look into the land what makes these times so special in southern africa. Wherever I was able to travel, these moments cannot come ofter enough.
