Figured I would get this post out while the wife is out buying a new shovel. You might be wondering why she is buying a new shovel. Well, yours truly got into a battle with a rose and lilac bush. I lost the first round.
As you can see I snapped the darn thing while trying to dig them out of this hard clay ground. Even though we softened up the ground up first, it did not matter. The two bushes had intertwined roots and they were set good. I went to pry back a little, and must have pryed back a lot.
Not sure when this happened, the two bushes were like this when we moved in back in 2000. I think out White Lilac at the end of our house spewed itself across the landscape over to the rose bush and that is all she wrote.
We finally decided it was time to do something about these suckers and dig them out. The intent is to plant a new rose bush. But this sucker just don't want to come out.
We will eventually get it out, and hopefully get a new one in to join the beauties in the line. Regretfully the White Lilac also has a rose bush that is growing up inside it. However, it is not as intangled and I don't think it will be as much of a challenge getting out.
We plan to leave the white lilac on the end, remove the rose bush under it. We also plan to leave the big rose bush you see next to the lilac.
We still have some work to do on the trimming and landscaping, but it is getting there. Since I don't have much energy and the physical ability anymore, a good deal of this is left up to my wonderful wife. She doesn't mind though as she loves working in the flowers and stuff.
Well, that is it for this post. Time to lick my wounds, literally, and wait for the new shovel.
Do you love working in your flowers and yard? Let me know what kind of flowers and stuff you like working with. Have you ever had a battle like this working in your landscaping? What was it? Who won?
