Just got back from a week away from home. Took off to stay with my cousin again. Had a good time, but didn't do all that much. The temps outside were stupid hot. Usually we're tinkering around with something. An old engine or building something. Not this time around. We're both getting older and don't take the heat like we used to. Especially me.
We did build a gate for his dad's house before it got too crazy hot one day. Felt good to get something done. Most of the time though we spent doing things like canning tomatoes. Which was an inside job. Smart move given the heat.
It was nice to get away. Give the wife some alone time as well. Sometimes you both need a little space. Healthy for the marriage.
Speaking of which. While I was away, she went hammer down in the basement. Identified all kinds of stuff to donate, trash, or recycle. Tons of it. We already loaded up the vehicle with recycling and hauled it away. However our trash dumpster is just not all that big. It would take weeks to get rid of it all. So we're going to call a junk removal service. We still have one section of the basement to finish though before we do that.
Between the garage, the shed, and now the basement, we're making serious progress on cleaning out years of accumulated stuff. One space at a time. One load at a time. It feels good to let things go. Stuff you don't need. Stuff you forgot you had. Stuff that's just been sitting there taking up space.
Lighter is better.
