First of, it has already been well established that the human nature was genetically engineered to seek companionship. Humans thrive under communal conditions and thus require it for continuous growth. Nobody wants to walk this hard road alone especially when you intend on having a long life. Can you even imagine being completely detached from other humans, no family, no home just accomplishes with no one to share them with. That already got looks like a pretty empty life to me, one I intend to avoid at all cause. The human species is made up of two genders- male and female both of which are constantly working hard to meet the right partner they can share their goals together and inevitably bear an offspring to carry on their legacy. This is where the concept of marriage crawls in.
SO WHAT IS MARRIAGE?
Well according to Meta AI marriage can be defined as Marriage is a legally recognized union between two people, built on love, trust, and mutual support, involving commitments, responsibilities, and rights that can shape their lives together. The key word in this definition is legally recognized union because these days there have been a lot of messy alliances where two people feel like they are right for each other and decide to cohabit. That's not marriage that's a roommate situationship with sexual benefits.
Marriage is not a destination as many of us believed it to be. It is a journey filled with ups and downs, sacrifices, compromises, understanding that is meant to last a life time. It is not bed of roses that overwhelms couples with goosebumps. This very perspective has ended a lot of marriages before the journey truly begins so if anybody wants to indulge in this lifelong commitment well they should be ready for everything that comes with it.
THE TYPE OF MARRIAGE I PREFER
There are diverse types of marriages all around the world ranging from Traditional to court each with its own mode of operation and rules coordinating their affairs. I have watched, heard and witnessed a vast variety of marriages so I believe I can deduce the best form of marital practice that appeals to me the most. Personally I will always choose the traditional African marriage ten times out of ten as it is a very relatable practice that resonates with me and my beliefs. I don't believe the white wedding has anything to do with religion as I can't even locate it in the Bible and court marriage is a total hell naw for me. The traditional marriage is a symbol of my heritage with deep connections with my culture that respects both families and is even recognized by the Holy book. The man travels to the home of his beloved together with his family, friends and well wishers to celebrate their union and he pays a significant amount known as dowry to tie the whole thing up in public.
Even in Nigeria this very day once a man conducts a traditional marriage it is automatically assumed that the woman is already his wife even without taking it further and this I say reeks of supremacy.
DOES THE TYPE OF MARRIAGE DETERMINE HOW THE HOME WILL BE OR IS IT THE COUPLE?
Well I believe both the type of marriage and efforts from the couples contributes to how the home operates. I mean you don't expect two people who both wed in the church as full fledged Christians to ignore their beliefs. Obviously their relationship will definitely be tied to their faith allowing it to serve as a guide in their home. However it is also important to note that despite the type of marriage the couple chooses, if they are not willing to put in effort into its continual growth, that union will definitely be faced with issues that threatens its longevity and eventually lead to a collapse. So it is a symbiotic interaction between the couple and the type of marriage that determines how the home will be.
While the above is solely my personal opinion about the affairs of marriage, I strongly believe that it still contains facts that should be taken seriously. Even if the operations of marriage has evolved with time, it still requires love, respect, commitment, sacrifice and communication for it to blossom.
