Last week I had occasion to visit Ocean Shores, a resort town about 20 miles from my hometown of Hoquiam.
Though it's only 20 miles, I rarely get out there, because I don't have a car and riding the bus requires at least a three-hour commitment of time. It's only a direct trip one way, and the buses are spaced about two hours apart. I can easily spend an hour on the beach, but then it gets cold -- even in the height of summer the beach is cool here; I usually find a hoodie necessary.
So I was excited to have an excuse to go out there. I had a job interview for a housekeeping position at one of the hotels, a position I secured, and then I had about 20 minutes on the beach before the next bus came.
Twenty minutes is not really enough time to get into a photography session. It seems like it takes me about that long to start to feel the creative flow. I was happy to get this shot of the dunes though, especially with the people in the background.
I don't think I noticed the people when I was lining up the shot. As a general rule, I try to keep people out of my landscapes. But I think they add a bit of life to the scene here.
Anyway, since I have the job, I should have plenty of time for more beach photography. I'm looking forward to adding some variety to my shots. I love Hoquiam with the river and the bay, but I'm not sure if I'll find it endlessly inspiring.
Stay tuned for more!
