As a person who spent most of their life looking for sure things, I can assure that they are out there, but it's my experience that they are never actually what I was looking for in the end. We can want things to all be a certain way and convince ourselves that we'll take some future action when the universe aligns to will it and all of that sort of reasoning, but in the end we only exist now. The only sure thing I've found is that everything changes.
Everything that happened in the past is simply what got us to where we are and everything that happens after this exact moment is really irrelevant as it only exists as a thought form of our own expectations, desires, or fear. We can go through our whole lives missing out on opportunities and avoiding risk to do nothing but build up more and more regret. When things don't turn out the way we wanted or envisioned, some view that as a mistake and others view it as a lesson on what to do differently.
Living our lives based on fear and scarcity is extremely self limiting and the most tragic part of all is that leads to more despair and regret. The truth that I've found is that none of us get a guarantee on how life is going to turn out, what hurdles will come our way, and we certainly don't get to pick and choose what they are and who is there to share them with us. We can convince ourselves that we have control over these things or can somehow mitigate risks, but that is just another lesson to learn in the end.
We can blame society or our parents or all of the bad things that have happened to us in our lives for making us the way we that we are now. Alternatively, we can convince ourselves that we are doing the smart thing that will pay off in the end. There's always a reason to not follow our dreams or be the best possible version of ourselves that we can be, but I find those lines of thought to be rather insane and self sabotaging. None of us can truly know our limits or what we're capable of if we're afraid to push our own boundaries. In the end we all must decide what is or isn't worth risking for our own happiness and self fulfillment. I'm of the mindset that everything is a risk, especially inaction or indecision, so if I think something is worth pursuing, I'll risk it all every time as tomorrow is always a day away. Namaste.
