Every thought that goes through our mind is just that, a thought. Overthinking is one of the easiest ways to get lost dwelling on the past or worrying about the future. I feel like each thought, desire, and impulse that enters my mind is just that, a base signal from a physical existence that wants my attention, much like a blinker or a gaslight in a vehicle. Some are obviously more important or necessary to acknowledge than others, but ultimately we can let them all go if we really want. All of the illusions of things that fight for our attention and beg us to control or react to them. How do we let go of those base impulses and their control over our lives?
I feel that we have to surrender the need to control anything. It's the only thing that's ever worked for me. People often tell me that's easier said than done, but those are just thoughts too. I don't vocalize every thought I have or feel the need to validate or judge my own thoughts, much less anyone else's thoughts, but how can I possibly explain to anyone else that it's all an illusion? It's all our preconceived notions and expectations or judgments of those thoughts or behaviors, and ultimately we have the ability to just see them as that. Being able to detach and not react to those thoughts, impulses, desires, and feelings of our own or others is as easy as sitting in a park and noticing that squirrels and birds are present without ever looking at them. If we don't disturb them, they just keep on doing their thing.
It's certainly a challenge to explain concepts like freedom when the definitions never do the feelings justice. Metaphysical concepts such as love, attraction, and respect exist on a spectrum that we can't see or touch or measure with any amount of thought. The only way we can really know these things is by how we feel and we can choose to feel them or not feel them. It's kind of amazing to me that we all have our own concepts and perceptions of all of these things and it's equally amazing how unaware we can be of these things. Then again, that's kind of the point isn't it? We don't have to think about breathing, we don't have to think about forming the light particles hitting our eyes and making them form a picture, and we don't have to think about anything honestly. All I know is the less I think and the less I know, the better and easier my life feels. Jut go with the flow and be. Namaste.
