Buongiorno Garden Lovers!!
Here are some snapshots from my brief, beautiful visit to the garden this morning 馃槏馃挌馃尭
馃挌 Many plants are thriving: new, young pumpkins and zucchine - though there's very little soil, I've mega-mulched with organic layers, and am having good success with some wee corners like this one above, where the zucchine, basil and wild greens are happily keeping each other company 馃槏馃尀
And this beauty: bietola, or a kind of self-seeded/ wild spinach/ chard; it's mostly gone to seed (see further down the post), but a couple of abundant plants are thriving in shady corners where water happens to sit a little longer. After cutting these leaves, I've mulched around the plant to keep it flourishing.
Because of the intense heat and excess of zanzare/ mosquitoes, there is only a short window of opportunity in early morning to get things done, plus I'm fairly weak still recuperating from being incapacitated recently... so I'm trying to commit to more regular short visits, and only one task per visit. This time, no watering, just harvesting 馃槏
I got these seeds from the wallflowers too: I adore them popping out of walls and corners, and plan to ensconce them along the street. 馃挌馃挌馃尭
Talking of along the street, this is one of several tubs that I also take care of along the Via Dietro Gli Orti: I am so happy that yet another zucca has done so well here! I love how free food can grow in public spaces!
And this caper bush! it sprung up organically in these gardens that I care for, rather 'inconveniently' (for us, of course, not for him!) between the marble steps: I cut half of it back, so it is a compromise of capers and cucunci, but us also being able to access via the stairs!
And finally, the bietola seeds - sooo many! - which are now drying on my balcony.... I adore being that missing link which can help nature be even more abundant - and help me get tons of great nutriment into my system!
Blessings always in your garden
Clare.
