Hello friends artists, for some time I wanted to enter the Splinterlands art contest, but I had not focused on making my drawing until now, I chose Dr. Blight for several reasons, one of them is that I really like this letter, plus everything it represents, and the second reason is because my son dressed up as him in a school activity, so I wanted to follow the theme by making this art. I'm a fan of the monochromatic style, I've always liked it, although I confess I'm not an expert in this type of art, in fact I find it extremely difficult but I still like it, and the good thing is that I can give it my own personal touch. I decided to draw it in profile, because I have read in the rules that an art similar to that of the letter is not taken very much into account as original, I had many ideas in mind, but I am happy with my result, I have given it a somber appearance, but at the same time a little blurred by the brushes I used, I wanted to give it a rather dramatic tone, an aspect that is achieved with the monochromatic style that I love so much. Hola amigos artistas, desde hace un tiempo quería entrar al concurso de arte de Splinterlands, pero no me había enfocado en hacer mi dibujo hasta este momento, elegí al Dr. Blight por varias razones, una de ellas es que me gusta mucho esta carta, además de todo lo que representa, y la segunda razón es porque mi hijo se disfrazó de el en una actividad escolar, asi que quise seguir la temática realizando este arte. Soy fan del estilo monocromático, siempre me ha gustado, aunque confieso que no soy un experto en este tipo de arte, de hecho me parece sumamente difícil pero aun asi me agrada, y lo bueno es que puedo darle mi propio toque personal. Decidí dibujarlo de perfil, pues he leído en las reglas que un arte similar al de la carta no es tomado muy en cuenta como original, tenía muchas ideas en la mente, pero estoy conforme con mi resultado, le he dado una apariencia sombría, pero a su vez un poco difuminada por los pinceles que utilice, quise a su vez darle un tono bastante dramático, un aspecto que se logra con el estilo monocromático que tanto me encanta. The first thing as in any artistic process is to make the sketch, this time I used fine brushes, with a fairly thin tip, the idea was to simulate the effect of the pencil, after that I was changing the tips in its thickness to highlight and begin to give more shape to my drawing, the point here was to add some details in its appearance but not very marked, for that I varied a little the shades of black making it a little more grayish and with relatively low opacities, between 10 and 25%.
Lo primero como en todo proceso artístico es realizar el boceto, en esta oportunidad use pinceles finos, con una punta bastante delgada, la idea era simular el efecto del lápiz, luego de eso fui cambiando las puntas en su grosor para resaltar y comenzar a darle mayor forma a mi dibujo, el punto aquí fue agregar algunos detalles en su apariencia pero de forma no muy marcada, para eso varié un poco las tonalidades del negro haciéndolo un poco más grisáceo y con opacidades relativamente bajas, entre un 10 y 25 %.
After having my idea ready in its concept, I began to give depth to the character, at this point I was adding more details and highlighting them, I must confess that it cost me a little due to the blurring of the brush, at times I was a little hesitant on how to play with the whites and maintain the contrast without losing the image in the depth of the black color, but as I was trying I could get a balance between both colors and tones. After finishing the blurred effect I began to use black brushes a little softer but at the same time deeper, in that sense the opacity was between 40 and 50%, my intention was to soften the drawing and give it more depth, here is a detailed highlight in each area, as in the eye, the beak, the suit, etc.
Luego de tener mi idea lista en su concepto, comencé a darle profundidad al personaje, en este punto fui agregando más detalles y a su vez resaltándolos, debo confesar que me costó un poco debido a las difuminaciones del pincel, por momentos estaba un poco indeciso en como jugar con los blancos y mantener el contraste sin que la imagen se me perdiera en la profundidad del color negro, pero a medida de ir probando pude conseguir un balance entre ambos colores y tonos. Luego de terminar el efecto difuminado comencé a usar pinceles de color negro un poco más suaves pero a su vez más profundos, en ese sentido la opacidad estaba entre el 40 y 50 %, mi intención fue suavizar el dibujo y darle mayor profundidad, aquí se hace un resaltado detallado en cada área, como en el ojo, el pico, el traje, etc.
I could finish my art, but as I want to make it more dramatic, I had to intensify a little the blacks, even paint some parts where I had left blank. In my case I intensified the depth, I used brushes with opacity of 80 and 90%, some of them soft and others hard, the process was painting, adding layer masks, erasing some brush strokes, playing with the layer styles, everything necessary to get the result that I liked the most.
Podría dar por terminado mi arte, pero como quiero hacerlo más dramático, tuve que intensificar un poco los negros, incluso pintar algunas partes donde había dejado en blanco. En este punto entra la subjetividad del artista, ya que es apreciación del resultado que se desea obtener, en mi caso intensifique la profundidad, use pinceles con opacidad de 80 y 90 %, algunos de ellos suaves y otros duros, el proceso fue ir pintando, agregando mascaras de capa, borrando algunos trazos de pincel, jugando con los estilos de capa, todo lo necesario hasta conseguir el resultado que más me gusto.
