He awoke with a panic. His clothes were drenched with sweat. He stared at the ceiling as he tried to control his rapid breath. Cursing tersely, he rose to his elbow. He thought he had gotten over it – the screams, the blood. He walked to the window and threw it open. He needed some air.
This day, ten years ago, his sister was taken. He had watched them dragoon her from their mother's arms. She was only six. And hours later, he had sat quietly besides their mother in a pool of her blood. He hadn't spoken ever since.
