I'm cheap, errr.. FRUGAL, and never spend too much on a phone. In my life, the most I spent on a phone was maybe $40. (2k php since I was in Philippines at the time) When I returned to hawaii in 2020, my dad gave me a samsung galaxy J3 that I was very happy with, except that it only had 16GB storage. (plus a 32GB mem card). I was to the point where I had to erase something whenever I wanted to get a new app.
I have never received gifts on father's day before now, so I was very surprised.. but this one was a SCORE! Not only did my first born (YSA) pay for my lunch, but my wife (who does work at verizon, so she knows a good phone and the 50% discount she gets doesn't hurt, either) got my the Google Pixel 7 pro. It's an extreme upgrade to my old phone, not only in looks and screensize, but also in functionality and most important to me.. lots more storage.
It also came along with a nice looking case and screen protector, although those came in a pack of 2, and BOTH were cracked already! so, who needs to bother with that? Verizon mobile also has a promo where u get the phone FREE, and just pay for service. (and don't forget about my wife's 50% discount too!) :)
the only thing about this case.. because of the thickness the case adds, I can't do wireless charging with it on the phone. But it's cool, the faster charging via the USB C port is something I am eager to try. also, note the little slide down camera cover.. NICE!
Beside all the speed/size/functions improvements, one of biggest UPs on this phone is its camera.
There's many vids and reviews to be found about it all, but basically it's just better! as in 50 megapixels for the front cam, and i think 11 mpixels on the selfie cam. It also has great software to auto clean up all the pics as well as other cool features like how u can edit things right on the phone,.
I took this pic of my desk to show 1 thing..
Pretty clear and all, but then, check this out..
It zooms OUT to .5X! Then here it is at 3X..
It goes as high as 5X zoom.
Last word on this phone, I was pretty excited to try out the new (at least new to me) features of fingerprint and face unlock. It's setup so u can just look at the phone as normal, and it will unlock the phone.. in settings u can turn on a feature so it skips the 'enter ur PIN' screen and just goes straight to HOME. I was thrilled when I set it all up by taking a few pics and scans, and it DID work the first time just as advertised, but after many tries, I found it DIDN'T work all the time. (I would say like only 20% of time with face unlock) and so I just don't use that feature now.. it's a good attempt, but they gotta work on that some more to get it working perfect.
