I once had to make up some designs for Ramadan for clients of the agency I worked with. I have said it here before that when it comes to Islam as a whole and anything about Muslim "ways" I keep quiet because I do not know much about it, and ignorance is not something I like speaking with. I defer to people who know more than I do. When it was time, I sat down with a girl who was interning that I was teaching design. She was a Muslim so I asked her many questions.
A good designer does research on any design he is doing that is not something regular. For example a regular design could be a wedding invite for a couple. But once it is for a brand, a religion, etc, he has to do the work because if he gets anything wrong it could be disastrous. Everything from symbology, words and meanings, colours and more must be assessed and understood.
So, this madam helped me understand the fast, the prayers they pray, restrictions/practices observed and even the types of things they break their fast with and the time it is broken. It was a learning opportunity to not only do the work right but also to understand the way they worshiped at that point.
Yes, Google is there but it was important to sit with a practicing Muslim so I can hear first hand about it all.
A lot of people never do this for anything at all. They either just get up and spew whatever the next man is saying because it sounds good to them or feeds into what they already feel or simply because they want to be liked/noticed and then look as stupid as a man dressed in twelve layers of clothing, thermal underwear and boots in the hot sun, drinking hot tea.
When you are just giving an opinion, say so. When you are not sure, say so or perhaps say nothing at all. Just do not start posturing as if you have some special hidden wisdom on the subject matter and end up showing that you actually have ofio and kuli kuli upstairs and not a working brain.
It is just like the guy who argued with me over something some months back for almost fifteen minutes or more online, like he knew what he was saying and all the while it was just his opinion and not based on facts. At some point he even boldly implied that while I have the experience and expertise his opinion on the matter was clearly as important (if not more so) than mine. I just stopped responding.
Only to see him talking another special kind of rubbish the following week on another thread, and it was still opinion based. Now anytime I see his comment online I just ignore it no matter what he says. I do not read it at all. That one has already showed me he is more interested in speaking than actually conversing and learning anything.
Kindly avoid this.
It does not help you in any way at all.
