Hey Members of Jess
If there's a type of people that you don't need to explain FOMO to, then its people who are interested in cryptocurrency. Where all here because we don't want to miss the mooning of our favourite cryptos and make bank.
FOMO is synonymous with cryptocurrency and is how many people have lost large amounts of money, urgency drives impulsive decisions and with lack of research in this space, you're bound to get burned.
While we may think our own FOMO is the worst, people are feeling FOMO each day comparing their lives with those of others. Life's a competition and you need to check in regularly with your competitors to see if you're staying ahead right?
If that's how you define your lives values, then I suppose so, go right ahead everyone's doing it so it's pretty much the norm. Even if we want to deny it, that sense of groupthink is engrained in all of us, even I find myself envious of others holidays or sense of financial freedom.
The highlight reel
The fact of the matter is social media and even social interaction is about putting your best foot forward, you're only witnessing the highlight reel. You don't know what goes on behind the scenes, in someones bank account, in their families and relationships.
You're taking what they're projecting and comparing it to what you're actually living and in most cases, it's going to make you feel less than. It doesn't take much for the mind to quickly switch prepositions and next thing you know, you're feeling anxious or even depressed.
Everyone's living their best life and you're stuck with the same life, what are you doing wrong? Which is funny when a minute ago you were perfectly fine with how things were going.
The only way to win is to not play the game
When you're in FOMO which we will all have from time to time, you need to take a step back and pick your battles. Ask yourself the following questions.
- Is this something I really wished I was doing?
- Is this feeling telling me something that I need to change?
- Is this something that is viable for me right now?
- Is this an accurate representation of reality?
Once you've evaluated the moment you'll be surprised how much of the FOMO subsides and you can go about your day. If it still there you know you need to take action, grab that experience and enjoy it for all its worth. Naturally, you can't always choose to miss out on things, because regret way worse than FOMO can ever be, but you need to weigh up your options.
Make your own rules
Once you weight up temporary FOMO with life long regret you can decide on what you want to do with your time and your life. Play by your own rules, make your own decisions think for yourself and have no fear.
Have your say
How do you deal with FOMO? Does it even phase you? When did FOMO get the better of you?
Holla at me in the comments! All my commenters I will now refer to as Jessie. Jessie is a good friend of mine, but Jessies got a girl, and I want to make her mine.
So have at it my Jessies! If you don't have something to comment, simply comment "I am a Jessie."
