Of course, it has to be Daa Ahuruchi, my grandma. My paternal grandmother. Sweet. Cheerful. Peaceful. Perfect.
I think babies and the elderly have many things in common. They're sweet, always smiling, there's always something to learn from being around them. This doesn't take from the fact that they can be quite exhausting too.
I don't get to see my grandma often. Just mainly at Christmas. Meanwhile I have not seen her in about three years . Forget the "I love my granny and she's sweet" cliche thing. Mine is the deal. She's above a hundred years too but age has got nothing on her. She's very beautiful and her skin, oh her skin! It's smooth and glittery.
We do have the barrier in language as I am not very fluent in the igbo language. I do my best or use a relative as an interpreter
She is the most peaceful person i know(this has nothing to do with age tho). Woman rarely ever gets angry, never speaks evil of anyone and is open to all. Life is easy with her. Too easy. I have grown to believe that due to how free spirited and warm she is, , there's no room in her for illness. You know that, "good and bad do not coexist" thing right? Yeah! She never suffers any of those sicknesses that comes with aging.
Once a while, she gets down with fever or malaria, gets checked by a doctor and that's it. Amusingly, this woman takes everything. Things very much younger people avoid; cakes, sweet, Ice-ream, drinks, even gums. Anything. Nah! Her teeth is intact. Try to not give her and she'll ask, "am I not a human being?"
There's too many things about her to admire. Infact, everything about her does it for me
First, I've neither known not heard that she had ill feelings towards anyone. She's always speaking good of people . Her home is the warmest and therein lies no discrimination. Everyone is welcome. And across her face, a big smile is plastered. Not an atom of disdain is behind it.
Second, she has an edatic memory. She remembers events as they were; who, what, time, place, every single detail. Woman's memory is photographic. My dad is the exact same way. I have been privileged to hear her give the details of an event (regarding some plots of land) to some persons who came by to seek her counsel. I recall her going on and on about the years before. It was exciting. You want the details from the war or whatever event, ask her.
She's agile. Everytime I see her, save for the age-wrinkles, she never looks like she's getting older. Her steps are firm, her voice is firm. She looks after herself by herself although she has people to do that.
Her advices are prayers are always expected. She always asks of our welfare, individually.
All grandkids and their grandparents are close. It's same for me and mine. To be clear, she's close with everyone. I have written without depth how close-knit my family is. Thats how we just are..
I particularly enjoy tbat she stuffs me full for as many times as I want with any food I want. With her, everything is enjoyable.
Thanks for gracing this post.
Greetings!
