English Version

Years ago, in the old Venezuela, I met a young woman who realized how much time was wasted by many people busy with their jobs or other activities, waiting in lines to pay for services and other bureaucratic formalities.

It then occurred to her to offer to do this kind of paperwork, cumbersome for those people, but for her, as a student, who had some free afternoons, she could do it and get some economic benefit from it.

Getting alternatives to earn money implies having an optimistic and even creative outlook. At the time of the pandemic, a man bought two weeding machines, rented one and with the other he offered his services to clean the fronts of the housing development where he lived. All for the sake of not staying cooped up doing nothing.

Jorge has his son taking karate lessons every afternoon, he observed the number of parents who go to pick up their children and offered his service, for a reasonable amount, to transport them there and back.

Another lady makes trays of homemade food that she sells to those who work full-time in the center, including hawkers. Maria makes ice cream in plastic bags, adding some chocolate candy or condensed milk to make them more palatable.

This same type of wrapping has become convenient for packaging hot dog chips, mustard, tomato, corn, garlic and garlic sauces, butter and anything else that would be more expensive if bought in the original package.

There is a look to detect everything that can become a type of enterprise; not all of us have that way to grasp situations that can become a business, we are the ones who stay from the customer's side, but we are grateful to be able to solve a meal, or solve a way to send a parcel.

WhatsApp has become a means for cheating, we know that, but there are more of us who are good, and there are groups that in an honest and responsible way are dedicated to deliver a good to its destination safely and for a less expensive price.

The point is not to stand idly by and wait for job offers to rain from the sky. Sometimes it is necessary to move the intentions so that these are presented.

Some people tend to see the stumbling blocks more than the opportunities. They say they will leave the country to start from scratch, they sell their belongings and make great efforts, they work in other countries in exploitative situations, up to fourteen hours a day, but starting from scratch in their own country is complicated.

I do not want to underestimate the great problems that burden us, they are many and exhausting, but in some countries migrants are having even more work than those who have stayed here.

Venezuelans have a great creative and intellectual potential that is overshadowed by heavy labor or strenuous repetitive activities.

Perhaps a kind of collective depression has been wearing down the productive force and making invisible the power we have to grow and empower ourselves. Some have returned with a new vision and a new look to grasp opportunities even in critical situations. Great changes are about to happen, it is necessary to recover our self-esteem.
