Desert Flower | DIY Coaxial Cable Jewellery Set [Eng-Eng-Esp]
Greetings friends who love handicrafts! Welcome once again to my workshop Bricolaje DC. This time we are going to work with coaxial cable, to learn how to use this recycled material to make beautiful handmade jewellery. Join me in this publication and I will show you the benefits of this material.
Coaxial cable is the same cable we use at home to connect cable TV. Lately its use has been discontinued due to the arrival of the streaming platform, so it is likely that we will find a piece of cable at home. In order not to throw it away, we are going to transform it into beautiful handmade jewellery.
We need a pair of pliers, a cutter and scissors. We make a small cut in the thick rubber that covers the cable and pull it out.
We do the same with the fine wire mesh which is the next layer of the cable. And finally with the cutter we are going to remove the aluminium and insulating coating on the cable to reveal the copper wire. We may think that this insulating material is wasted, but this is not the case, we can make small pieces like flakes or feathers.
Once we have the material separated we are going to assemble our jewellery pieces. This time, we are going to make flowers with the silver plated mesh. I have called this set of earrings and ring Desert Flower, let's see the simple steps for its creation.
We need 60 centimetres of coaxial cable mesh. Transparent nylon thread, small chrome plated silver spheres, 10 grams of white cold porcelain mass, a pair of flat earring bases with silicone stopper, silver plated ring pass.
The first thing to do is to take the netting and with the help of your fingers press it to change the direction of the weave. We need about 5 centimetres for each rose (this can vary depending on the size we want to give the rose).
Once we have the flattened mesh, we are going to take a sphere and pass it through a piece of nylon thread. With the help of a wire, we are going to make a perforation in the centre of the rose, simply open a space between the wire to pass the thread through.
We leave the Sphere in the centre and knot the thread underneath. Cut the excess thread.
Repeat the process to make 2 roses, one for each earring. Then with the cold porcelain dough, we make a base to embed the rose on one side and the base of the earring on the other. Leave to dry for 2 hours.
For the ring we make 3 roses and 2 leaves. With the thread we fix them to the base of the ring and that's it.
We can give this set as a gift or wear it on any occasion. It is very easy to make and the result is very striking and it doesn't look like a coaxial cable could make this beautiful piece.
I hope you like it, I encourage you to do it and I will see you next time. Bye!
Chao!
