Fun notebook covers | DIY [Eng-Esp]

Greetings, fellow craft lovers! Welcome back to my workshop, @bricolajedc. This time, I’d love to share with you one of the covers I made for my daughter’s notebooks for the new school year. Join me, and I’ll walk you through this fun project step by step.

Saludos amigos amantes de las artes manuales! Les doy la bienvenida una vez más a mi taller @bricolajedc, en esta oportunidad me encantaría compartir con ustedes una de las portadas que realicé para los cuadernos de mi hija en este nuevo año escolar. Acompáñenme y les muestro el paso a paso de este divertido proyecto.

Black gel pen (0.5 millimeter tip)

Let's start by taking the first page of the notebook. We're going to use the first two pages for this design.

I remember that when I was in school, we used to mark the first page of the notebook, and whenever the curriculum period changed, we'd draw a triangle and write the corresponding period in a different color.

Comenzamos tomando la primera hoja del cuaderno. Vamos a usar las 2 primeras hojas para este diseño.

Recuerdo que cuando estaba en la escuela, marcábamos la primera hoja del cuaderno, también al cambiar el lapso del currículum, hacíamos un triángulo y escribíamos con un color el período correspondiente.

In the upper-left corner, next to the cover, we're going to draw a diagonal corner with a marker. I placed a white sheet of paper underneath so the marker ink wouldn't bleed through to the other page.

En la esquina superior izquierda, junto a la caratula, vamos a dibujar con marcador una esquina diagonal. Yo coloqué una hoja blanca debajo para no dejar trazos de tinta del marcador en la otra página.

I used some neon highlighters to create a sense of depth with a light gray marker.

We can create a pattern of lines in different shades to achieve that country look.

Utilicé unos resaltadores en neón para dar un efecto de profundidad marcador gris claro.

Podemos hacer un tramado de líneas de diferentes tonos para crear ese efecto country.

On the white opaline cardstock, we're going to draw a cartoon character that will be the centerpiece of our cover. I used the character Sky from the movie Paw Patrol.

En la cartulina opalina de color blanco, vamos a hacer un dibujo animado que será el centro de nuestra portada. Yo utilicé el personaje Sky de la película Paw Patrol.

Using the markers, we’re going to color in all the details of the character. This is my favorite part of this project.

Using the pen, we’re going to trace the entire outline of the drawing. We’ll cut it out, leaving a one-millimeter border.

We should make the drawing half the size of a notebook page so we can fit it within the margins we’re drawing.

Con los marcadores vamos a colorear todos los detalles del personaje. Esta es mi parte favorita de este proyecto.

Con el bolígrafo vamos a marcar todo el contorno del dibujo. Recortamos dejando un milímetro de contorno.

Debemos hacer el dibujo del tamaño de media hoja del cuaderno para que podamos acomodarlo dentro del margen que estamos dibujando.

We can label the notebook with the corresponding subject. I like to combine shades of the same color to make the letters stand out.

Podemos marcar el cuaderno con su respectiva asignatura. Me gusta combinar los tonos de un mismo color para que resalten las letras.

Cut out a rectangle from the center of the sheet using the frame as a guide. This will be the transparent part of our cover.

Recortamos un rectángulo del centro de la hoja con el marco. Esta será la parte transparente de nuestra portada.

Trim off the excess paper strip and glue the acetate in place with enough glue to keep it from coming loose.

Here’s a tip: Use silicone glue to attach a strip of white paper all around the edge of the acetate to keep it from coming loose or letting the glitter fall out.

Retiramos el excedente de la hija de papel y vamos a pegar el acetato con suficiente pegamento para que no se despegue.

Un tip que puedo darles, es pegar con silicona una tira de papel blanco por todo el contorno del acetato para evitar que se despegue o que se salga la escarcha.

On the second page of the notebook, we're going to add some details about the character. I used little pink and purple dots to identify the character I was working on.

En la segunda hoja del cuaderno, vamos a hacer algunos detalles referentes al personaje. Yo utilicé huellitas en color rosa y violeta que identifica el personaje con el que trabajé.

Take a rectangle of Korean paper and cut out several hearts. I made an accordion fold to save time.

Tomamos un rectángulo de papel coreano y vamos a recortar varios corazones. Yo hice un acordeón para ahorrar tiempo.

Place the glitter and hearts on the acetate and apply silicone along the entire edge of the sheets. Glue the two sheets together, leaving the acetate free of glue so that the glitter and hearts can move.

Colocamos la escarcha y los corazon sobre el acetato y aplicamos silicona en todo el contorno de las hojas, pegamos ambas hojas dejando el acetato sin pegamento para que la escarcha y los corazones puedan moverse.

Finally, we glue the character we made onto black opal cardstock and cut it out, leaving a 2-millimeter border.

Por último pegamos el personaje que hicimos en cartulina opalina de color negro y recortamos dejando un borde de 2 milímetros.

That's how we can personalize our notebooks with these trendy, homemade covers using very few materials.
